De Krans Wine Cellar, situated in Calitzdorp, has received a five star rating for its Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2013 in the latest edition of the authoritative and internationally recognized Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide 2016, due for release mid-November. This is the 11th consecutive year that De Krans has been awarded a five star rating for its award-winning port wines, reaffirming their position as one of the port leaders in the industry. The results were announced on Thursday, 29 October at an event held at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.

A total of 83 five star wines, as well as three new five star brandies and one new five star husk spirit are featured in the 2016 guide.

Already a Gold medal winner at the recent 2015 Veritas Awards, winemaker Louis van der Riet describes the port as being dark black in colour with a plumred rim. Aromas of ripe red berries and cherries, with some spice and dark chocolate are prominent on the nose. A full-bodied fortified wine with ripe dark fruit notes of plum, mulberry and black currants.

The wine is well-rounded by smooth cacao and smoky undertones. It has firm tannins that will ensure an excellent maturation potential for many decades to come.

The perfect port to enjoy with most baked desserts, in a sauce over ice-cream, well matured cheeses, or simply on its own. Available to the public towards the end of 2015 this award-winning port will retail for approximately R275 per bottle.
