A Twist Of Fate: A Lighter Style Red Perfect For All Year Round

A Twist of Fate, a blend between Portuguese grape varieties Tinta Barocca and Tinta Amarela, forms part of the De Krans Terroir Range. A Twist of Fate is a lighter style red wine, which is arguably comparable to a Pinot Noir in terms of style and use. The concept behind this wine was to produce a lighter style red wine, which should be served chilled, making this wine perfect for those warmer days. Free run juice is used resulting in delicious strawberry and cherry flavours with a lovely earthiness, hints of spice and a subtle oak character.

Retailing for approximately R92 per bottle, A Twist of Fate pairs perfectly with Springbok carpaccio and charcuterie, and is a must-have for a braai.

A Twist of Fate pays tribute to the first Portuguese grapes planted in Calitzdorp, Tinta Barocca. Having thought it was Shiraz, this Portuguese variety was planted by mistake in 1973 and paved the way for the ultimately what would become South Africa’s Port Capital. Similarly, Tinta Amarela, another of the five Portuguese cornerstones, was planted in 2004, being mistaken for Tinta Roriz. Undeniably, this wine is all about the story and the name says it all.

De Krans’s Terroir Range includes a selection of dry, red Portuguese cultivars, including their popular Touriga Nacional. The name “Terroir Range” is a result of the way in which these unique wines truly embrace and showcase the Calitzdorp climate and soil, which is so similar to the Duoro Valley in Portugal. Apart from their Terroir Range, De Krans also produces a top-quality port style wine range as well as a Classic Varietal Range, which include popular wines such as the De Krans Premium Moscato Perlé, the De Krans Free Run Chenin Blanc, De Krans Pinotage Rosé and the Basket Press Cabernet Sauvignon.
