De Krans Touriga Nacional best of the best at 2019 Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards
De Krans Wine Cellar, situated along the iconic Route 62 in Calitzdorp, has excelled at the 2019 Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards, where the De Krans Touriga Nacional 2017 was announced as the Best Touriga Nacional. This follows in the footsteps of the 2016 vintage, that won the same accolade last year.
The results were announced at a special awards ceremony which took place on 1 August. A total of 328 entries were received for this year’s competition which was evaluated by a panel of highly esteemed judges. The panel was chaired by Jeff Grier who was joined in the judging process by David Biggs, Narina Cloete, Sandile Mkhwanazi and Anton Swarts.
This exceptional award-winning wine is a beautiful dark plum red colour – the perfect Winter wine, yet suitable for all seasons. The wine displays a complex nose of dark red berries, violets and cacao. These flavours are intermingled with sweet dark cherry, prune, white pepper and toasted oak aromas. On the palate this full-bodied, yet well-balanced wine delivers a lingering aftertaste flavours of dark chocolate beautifully complemented with flavours of black currants, dried prunes, cherry cigars and violets. Savour on its own, or partner game dishes such as Ostrich steaks, Springbok carpaccio or a succulent roasted lamb shank.
