De Krans Touriga Nacional wins at Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards
De Krans Wine Cellar, situated along the iconic Route 62 in Calitzdorp, has excelled at the 2018 Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards, where the De Krans Touriga Nacional 2016 was announced as one of 23 National Winners.
The National Winners were made up of a cultivar of wines, blends and wine styles which were selected from 14 wine terroirs from across the winelands. This year the entries by industry heavyweights Kris Snyman, Jeff Grier, Jolette Steyn, David Biggs, Sandile Mkhwanazi, Elize Coetzee and Karen Glanfield.
Winemaker, Louis van der Riet describes this award-winning wine as being a beautiful dark plum red colour – the perfect Winter wine, yet suitable for all seasons. The wine displays a complex nose of dark red berries, violets and cacao. These flavours are intermingled with sweet dark cherry, prune, white pepper and toasted oak aromas. On the palate this full-bodied, yet well-balanced wine delivers a lingering aftertaste flavours of dark chocolate beautifully complemented with flavours of black currants, dried prunes, cherry cigars and violets. Savour on its own, or partner game dishes such as Ostrich steaks, Springbok carpaccio or a succulent roasted lamb shank.
