De Krans excels at NWC/Top 100 SA Wines

De Krans, widely known as being one of SA’s leading port-style wine producers, recently welcomed the wonderful news of having earned top praise at the 2021 National Wine Challenge Awards/ Top 100 SA Wines. Both their Cape Vintage Reserve 2018 port-style wine and Tritonia Calitzdorp Blend 2018 excelled in their relevant categories. The Cape Vintage Reserve 2018 was awarded Double Platinum as well as a spot on the sought-after Top 100 SA Wines for 2021, with the flagship Tritonia Calitzdorp Blend  2018 receiving a Double Gold award. The results were announced on 6 May.

Winemaker Christoff de Wet describes the Cape Vintage Reserve 2018 as being a dark black in colour with a plum red rim. On the nose the wine is beautifully aromatic with ripe red berry, cherry, violet and dark chocolate flavours. Your first sip of this award-winning port reminds you of ripe dark fruits such as plums, mulberries, and blackcurrants. A well-rounded port with smooth dark chocolate undertones and firm tannins holds the promise of a fortified wine guaranteed to mature for at least 30 years. Savour on its own or enjoy with a selection of well matured cheeses. Available from most outlets nationwide at R375 per bottle.

The Tritonia Calitzdorp Blend  2018, which is named after a plant, found in the species-rich Klein Karoo area, and is a blend of Portuguese grape varieties including Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca and Tinta Amarela. This full-bodied, yet elegant blend is the perfect combination of fruit and earthiness with savoury notes on the palate and integrated oak. This wine also pairs perfectly with any type of red meat, especially venison and ostrich. Available in selected wine outlets nationwide, the Tritonia Red (Calitzdorp Blend) retails for R245 per bottle.
