Two Golds for De Krans at Veritas
Following hot on the heels of its Platter 5-star rating for their Cape Vintage Reserve 2018, De Krans Wines can now add a Veritas Gold medal to this port-style wine’s list of accolades. A Gold medal was also awarded to the De Krans Muscat Blanc 2020. The 2020 Veritas Awards were announced on Saturday, 14 November at a lunch event in Paarl.
With a string of awards already under its ‘belt’ the Cape Vintage Reserve– De Krans’ flagship port-style wine – spent 20 months in a big oak vat and has a dark colour with a plum red rim. A big wine full of ripe dark fruit notes of plum, mulberry and black currents. Well-rounded, with smooth dark chocolate undertones and firm tannins, results in a wine that will mature well over 30 years. A port-style wine to savour on its own or enjoy with well matured cheeses.
The 2020 Muscat Blanc has a lush golden yellow colour with hints of green, and displays typical Muscat flavours on the nose with an abundance of fresh ripe fruit such as peach, litchis and spring blossoms. On the palate the wine delivers a sweet but fresh finish, with an explosion of Muscat flavours in the mouth. This results in a wine with perfect balance, integrated acidity and alcohol. Perfect on its own or with dessert, nuts and dried fruit. Available off the farm only, this award-winning wine will no doubt make for interesting conversation at your next social gathering.
