All That Glistens Is Gold For De Krans

In the latest round of industry awards, De Krans Wines excelled in both the Rosé Rocks Competition and Ultra Value Wine Challenge. The standout wine was the De Krans Premium Moscato Perlé Rosé 2022, which was not only awarded Sparkling of the Year at the Ultra event, but also received a Double Gold medal. The same wine also took home Gold at the Rosé Rocks Competition.

The De Krans Pinotage Rosé 2022 was awarded Gold at both events, and the De Krans Free-Run Chenin Blanc 2022 was a Gold medal winner at the Ultra Challenge.

The eighth annual Ultra Value Wine Challenge identifies the very best wine buys that sell for under R130 a bottle. This is the largest price point sector in South African wine. It gives wine lovers that special first prize, a trusted list of best quality, best-priced wines.

Rosé Rocks, the first of its kind in South Africa, is entirely dedicated to Rosé and seeks to not only acknowledge excellence in Rosé winemaking but also to in effect, promote the category in SA.

Launched in early 2021, the De Krans Premium Rosé Moscato Perlé, is as a Rosé still enjoying great success throughout the world and the Premium Rosé Moscato Perlé truly encompasses everything consumers love about this varietal – its freshness, its red fruit character and its vibrant and dreamy colour palate. With this wine just a touch of Pinotage is added to Muscadel grapes and Hanepoot juice to give it a beautiful rose petal, blush pink colour. This natural sweet wine is packed with fresh tropical fruit, strawberry and candy floss flavours, with exotic spice and muscat aromas and a balanced, fresh acidity.

The De Krans Pinotage Rosé 2022 has a delicate, light pink colour with a refreshing, crisp acidity and fruit character of red fruit flavours like strawberries and candyfloss on the palate. This Rosé pairs well with summer salads and seafood dishes, like cob, seafood paella, seared tuna, or a snoek or salmon terrine. The options are endless so make sure you experiment a bit when planning your next menu for friends and family.

Part of De Krans’ Classic Varietal Range, the Free-Run Chenin Blanc 2022 is as its name stipulates. Only the free run juice of the grapes is used, which is the first batch of juice after the initial destemming and crushing of the grapes without pressing the wine. This reduces the risk of too many phenols in the juice, resulting in complex fruit flavours of ripe tropical fruit, ripe banana, guava, passion fruit and hints of lime. The wine has a well-rounded mouth feel, smooth structure and refreshing, balanced acidity, and pairs well with fresh snoek, sushi, braaied chicken, summer salads and pasta.
