De Krans’ Tritonia Red 2017 secures top 10 spot

Not only regarded as SA’s leading port producer, but also for their numerous accolades, De Krans Wines can confidently add Top 10 winner to their list for the Tritonia Red 2017, which recently secured a spot in the annual Prescient Red Blend Report for 2020.

The annual report was convened by Winemag.co.za, and this year there were 45 entries received from 39 producers, of which 27 scored 90+ on the 100-point quality scale, as tasted blind by a three-person panel. The panel was chaired by well-known industry influencer Christian Eedes, who was joined in the judging process by Roland Peens and James Pietersen, both of Wine Cellar.

The Tritonia Red named after a plant, found in the species-rich Klein Karoo area, is a blend of Portuguese grape varieties including Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca and Tinta Amarela. This full-bodied, yet elegant blend is the perfect combination of fruit and earthiness with savoury notes on the palate and integrated oak. Both the Tritonia Red and Touriga Nacional pair perfectly with any type of red meat, especially venison and ostrich. With Braai Day around the corner why not enjoy this wine with a juicy steak or lamb chop, instead the habitual merlot or cabernet sauvignon, for a unique and interesting pairing experience.

Already an award-winning wine, this flagship red blend has been rapidly racking in the accolades after winning the Old Mutual Trophy for Best Non–Bordeaux Red Blend both in 2017 and 2019, receiving 4.5 stars in the 2019 Platter guide, scoring 93 points in the Tim Atkin MW Report as well as winning a gold medal at the Six Nations Wine Competition in both 2017 and 2018.
