Did you know? De Krans made the first Moscato in SA back in 2012. This year we are celebrating 10 years of the Premium Moscato White, with the range later expanding to a Moscato Red and Moscato Rosé. The Premium Moscato Range combines the humble Muscadel grape, sweet Hanepoot juice, and a small amount of Pinotage grapes in the case of the Red and Rosé. Finished off with a slight bubble, these wines are equally delicious served as a welcoming drink, as they are paired with dishes like cheese and charcuterie platters, or mild curries.

We are excited to announce the release of the 2021

We are excited to announce the release of the 2021 vintage of our De Krans Tritonia Verdelho. Made of 100% Verdelho grapes, this wine spent 12 months in 3rd and 4th fill barrels. The wine has aromas of ripe melon, lime, apricot and toasted almonds with honeysuckle and floral blossoms, with flavours of dried orange peel, nuts and soft oak, and an intergrated acidity and fine tannins. This wine pairs beautifully wth seafood dishes like salmon and sea trout, as well as slow roasted pork loin and Cape Malay Curry.

With harvest done and dusted, it seems only appropriate to publicly thank and introduce our trusty and beloved Basket Press. Originally from Champagne in France, this press first came to South Africa in 1955 when it was imported by Robertson Winery, after which De Krans bought 30 years later in 1985. This Basket Press is definitely one of its kind and is known for its soft press, making it perfect for red wines, and making port-style wines. It doesn't crush the pips of the grapes, resulting in softer tannins and an overall smooth and soft wine. This press holds about 8 tons of grapes, and is made of French oak, making the oak staves easily replaceable if necessary. We love having this piece of history in the cellar and are super excited to share this year's wines with you.

Time flies and it is already time to announce our featured team member for April - meet Bessie Swanepoel, our admin manager.
Whether ordering wine online or phoning to ask for directions or information about our Hanepoot picking, you will definitely have chatted with Bessie, the "voice" of De Krans.

Born in the small Klein Karoo town of De Rust, she spent her childhood years in Hartenbos, but finally made Calitzdorp her home. She started working as a waitress at a local restaurant, a restaurant which she ended up ultimately owning. Eight years later, Bessie became part of the De Krans team where she started working in the tasting room, and was employed as the admin manager in 2009. She considers her main aim and biggest challenge to keep customers happy. She says it's not an easy task every day, but that getting that one email of thanks from a satisfied customer makes it all worth while.

Bessie says she has a soft spot for all animals, especially dogs and cats, and loves the ocean, and taking long walks on the beach. In her opinion, nothing can replace the calmness the ocean brings. Her motto? Live everyday to the full. Bessie is an invaluable team member and we especially love her for her quick and sharp sense of humour, incredible patience, and determination. We can't imagine the De Krans team without you Bessie - thank you!

What an exciting day of final tastings, last adjustments and then that moment when the first bottle and the first box came out - what a feeling!
